2009/2010 Program Descriptions

Our program goals include the development of sound skiing fundamentals for lifelong enjoyment of our sport, a sound competitive experience that supports the athlete at all levels of competition and personal development through a healthy sporting environment.

To provide the correct training and competitive environment, our Race Team program trains and competes in what is essentially two racing series. Our primary considerations in choosing one or the other, are age and experience. 13 and 14 year olds may train and compete in either of the programs.

A new proposal for this year is our JUNIOR RACE TEAM: The Jr. Race Team is a program intended for 8-12 year old skiers with limited race experience.
The Jr. Race Team is designed for those who want to take a step further towards the competitive path. Our coaches will blend all-mountain skiing, gate-training, drills, the terrain park and other options in a curriculum designed to develop a strong skiing foundation. Our emphasis will be on fun, participation and learning. Participants will be encouraged to participate in the local Tommy Moe Competition Series.
The Jr. Race Team begins Dec 27th 2009 with 5 continuous day of training in the Holiday Camp and continues each Saturday through March 20, 2010. Hours are 9:00 am – 3:00 pm with a 1 hour unsupervised lunch break 11:00-12:00.
The Jr. Race Team is priced at $550 until Sept 30, 2009. Pricing from October on is $630.
The Jr. Race Team requires a minimum number of participants to activate the program. Season Pass, equipment, competition and travel costs are not included in program fees.

At the next level, the Youth Ski League Group maintains a strong developmental mission and enters competitions that offer appropriate competition levels whether introductory or more elite. Following that, the Scored Racing series offers more intensive racing and training and usually is best suited for racers with some racing experience.

1) Youth Ski League (ages 8-14) These programs are geared toward gaining skiing fundamental skills and competitive experience through a curriculum of free-skiing and gate training progressions and racing. In addition to our regular training sessions participants have competition opportunities based on the Youth Ski League of the Northern Division of USSA and the Tommy Moe Series at our home resort. Participants can find an easy introduction to racing or train and compete at the elite levels of USSA competition.

2) USSA/FIS Scored Racing. (ages 13-19) These programs continue skill and fundamental development with free-skiing and gate training progressions. Athletes in this program have competition opportunities in the Northern Division of USSA, Western Region FIS events and potentially beyond depending on qualifications. Participants in these programs often use their experience to compete in the national, international or collegiate system, or to enjoy a lifetime of skiing with finely tuned skiing skills.

Greetings from Mt. Hood. We are in our second day of a technical camp for our Jr. 3and older racers. The crew arrived by train (Amtrak) and I picked them up in White Salmon, Washington about an hours drive from Mt. Hood. The weather has been good to us and the snow was particularly good for us this morning, having frozen nicely last night. We have seen a lot of other teams here and there are some great high level camps taking advantage of the snow here. It is fun to see the elite skiers involved. It is also rewarding to see athletes of that level working on excatly the same fundamentals and progressions that we are. Our group is working hard and responding well to the training. Tomorrow is day three on snow and our plan is to ski for 4 days,(2 more) take a break for a day then train again for 2 more days. We will keep you posted...
